CHENNAI: Candidates who appeared for the recently held exam to hire Village Administration Officers (VAO),  have urged the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) to publish their marks on its website, the way it was done in 2007.The results of TNPSC VAO exam held on February 20 were announced on July 19. Unlike in 2007, when the exam results were published in the TNPSC’s official website along-with the marks obtained by all the candidates, this year, only the registration numbers of the selected candidates were published, without their marks. All the candidates were curious to know their marks so that those who did not get through this time would be able to assess their performance and prepare for the forthcoming Group-2 exams to be held on July 30.“Announcing the results along with the marks obtained by the candidates is the usual practice of TNPSC. But, this time, it did not announce the marks. All the candidates are desperately waiting to know the marks they have scored,” said M Mahendravarman, a candidate who wrote the exam.Totally, 7,76,156 candidates had appeared for the exam this year out of which, 2,407 candidates were selected for appointment by direct recruitment. The results of 1,077 shortfall vacancies for SC/ST candidates were kept in abeyance, awaiting orders of the High court in W.P.No. 19563/2010.When contacted over phone, a TNPSC official said that they would release all the 7,76,156 candidates’ marks once the court case was over.“We will publish everyone’s marks within two days after the court’s order. The withheld results for 1,077 vacancies will also be announced then. Until then, we cannot publish the marks, according to procedure. Candidates who are eager to know their marks may have to wait till further orders of the court,” said the official. However,  the candidates were unhappy about TNPSC’s decision to wait for the court’s order.
