CHENNAI: A laptop was presented in the Madras High Court on Friday to M Deepa of R K Pet in Tiruvallur district, who secured high marks and later on retotalling of marks, stood first in her school in the Tenth Standard public exams.Originally, Deepa, now studying in SN Engineering College, had secured 474 marks out of 500 in the Standard X public exams held in 2008. As another girl scored 478 marks, the laptop was given to her under the government scheme. However, on retotalling, Deepa was declared having secured 479 marks. She claimed the laptop as she had become eligible in view of the retotalling.As it was not forthcoming, her father moved the Madras High Court, which in March this year, directed the Joint Director (Vocational) to pass appropriate orders regarding issuance of laptop to his daughter, within four weeks. As there was no progress, he filed the present contempt application.When the matter came up earlier, additional government pleader P Sanjai Gandhi submitted that the government had passed a special GO sanctioning laptop to Deepa.Accordingly, when the matter was taken up on Friday, the government produced a laptop. Advocate-General A Navaneethakrishnan and Sanjai Gandhi presented it to Deepa in the presence of Justice P Joyothimani in the court hall.
