BHUBANESWAR: The State Government is going to launch crime and criminal tracking network system soon to boost crime detection. A decision has been taken to connect 742 police stations in the State using VSAT, point-to-point leased line and VPN broadband. Out of these, 133 police stations are situated in remote and difficult terrains. The decision was taken at a meeting, presided over by Chief Secretary Bijay Kumar Patnaik, here on Friday. The Chief Secretary directed Home and Information Technology departments to connect 133 police stations in the first phase in two months. He directed the departments to work out details of technical requirement for the purpose. He said the process of getting clearance for the project from the Ministry of Home Affairs should be expedited. All the offices of the assistant commissioners of police (ACPs) will be connected with the system. In the first phase, the ACP offices in Cuttack City will be networked. Steps will also be taken for the capacity-building activities of the police personnel. Of the target to set up 48 training centres, 44 have been completed. The centre at Jajpur will be completed this month. Three more training centres at 4th India Reserve Battalion, Deogarh, 3rd India Reserve Battalion, Kalinganagar, and 1st India Reserve Battalion, Koraput, will set up soon. These centres will have capacity to train 28,000 police personnel in 20 basic IT course.
