Allahabad: UP Police on Thursday arrested two associates of a jailed local Samajwadi Party leader for their alleged involvement in the bomb attack on state minister Nand Gopal Gupta on Monday.
"We have arrested Rajesh Yadav and Kripanand Pandey, both of whom have confessed during interrogation their complicity in planting the bomb outside Minister Nand Gopal Gupta’s house," Deputy Inspector General of Police Braj Bhushan said.
He said they were arrested on Wednesday night near Malihara railway crossing and claimed that during interrogation the two had disclosed that they were close associates of SP leader Dilip Mishra, who is currently lodged in an Agra jail and with whom the minister had a long-standing property dispute.
"The duo even admitted that they were involved in making of the bomb and planting it inside a two-wheeler parked outside Nandi's house," Bhushan claimed. "They have also stated that at the time of explosion, they were watching the entire incident from a few metres' distance," he said.
The DIG also stated that Yadav had a criminal background and had been imprisoned at least half-a-dozen times in cases relating to murder and loot. "We are now working on the feedback provided by these two persons and we are confident that we will be able to nab other accomplices in a short time," the DIG added.
Minister of institutional finance Nand Gopal Gupta `Nandi', who sustained multiple lacerating and penetrating blast injuries in Allahabad on July 12, is undergoing treatment in intensive care unit of critical care medicine department of SGPGI, Lucknow.
According to his progress report released by SGPGI, Nandi, who is presently conscious and maintaining vital parameters, is on life support therapy and painkillers. He is also being investigated for fever. Further surgical interventions are being planned and a team of specialists from different specialities is monitoring his condition.
