Warangal: Two Maoists, including an outlawed CPI Maoist area committee secretary, have surrendered to the Telangana police, it was officially announced on Friday.
Superintendent of Police (Rural) LKV Ranga Rao produced the surrendered Maoists before reporters and said that CPI Maoist's Eturnagaram-Mahadevpur area committee secretary Mekala Raju alias Raj Kumar alias Murali and Area Committee Member Midiyam Somidi alias Sangeeta voluntarily surrendered to the police.
A native of Azamnagar village in Bhupalapally mandal, Mekala Raju was attracted to the outlawed CPI Maoist's through its literature and joined the party in 2003.
After involvement in several assault cases in the district, he carried a Rs 4 lakh reward on his head.
Surrendered CPI Maoist area committee member Midiyam Somidi alias Sangeeta, is a native of Chelamnendra village in Maddedu taluka of Chhattisgarh state.
Allegedly, she killed two villagers suspected to be police informers in Sarvayipeta and Annaram villages. She was also involved in an exchange of fire between the police and the Maoists in 2009 at Chinnaboinapelly.
SP LKV Ranga Rao said that there is no ideology in the CPI Maoist and that top leaders in the party have been humiliating Maoist cadres.
