ALAPPUZHA: The ‘kettukazhcha’ and ‘kuthiyottam’ rituals held as part of the bharani festival of the Chettikulangara temple will be accredited with the Intangible Cultural Heritage(ICH) status of the UNESCO.The Sreedevi Vilasam Hindu Matha Convention, the governing body of the temple, has submitted all the documents to the UNESCO through the Central Sangeetha Nataka Academy, the nodal agency of ICH in India, in this regard. A team from the UNESCO led by its Asia- Pacific Director Arumughom Parasuraman had visited the temple last year.They evaluated the preparations of the festival, making of the kuthira for kettukazhcha and preparations of the kuthiyottam. Later, a committee led by the then Additional Chief Secretary K Jayakumar prepared documents related to the festival and forwarded them to the UNESCO.The fourth session of the General Assembly of the State Parties of the ICH will be held at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris from June 4 to 8, where the report will be considered.
