New Delhi: The Supreme Court has expressed displeasure over Uphaar case accused Sushil Ansal traveling abroad without the court's consent. Ansal had gone abroad for medical treatment.
Sushil Ansal and Gopal Ansal have been convicted by the court to serve 1 year in jail in the Uphaar case.
Lawyer for the Ansal's Ram Jethmalani gave an undertaking in the court saying that Sushil Ansal will return on 11 April and appear before court on 15 April.
Sushil and Gopal Ansal have sought an acquittal from the Supreme Court. The High Court had reduced their sentence from two years to one year whereas the CBI and victims of the fire tragedy have demanded that the Ansals be convicted under more stringent sections.
A total of 59 people had died when a fire gutted the Uphaar theatre on June 13, 1997.
