CHENNAI: A Village Administrative Officer (VAO) was arrested by the suburban police at Adambakkam on Monday for forging documents to grab a land worth Rs seven crore.  VAO A R Sridharan was arrested at Yadava street, Adambakkam after he confessed to having forged the land tax register and getting an undated ‘chitta’ for a 1.25-acre land at Andal Nagar west, Adambakkam village. A few years ago, the owners of the land, originally purchased by Elumalai Nadar in 1965, found that four persons in the area grabbed their land by including their names in the land tax register and obtaining an undated ‘chitta’ for it.  Nadar’s grandson Anandraj (37) of Lakshmi Nagar, Nanganallur, then lodged a complaint with the Central Crime Branch attached to the suburban police commissionerate. After investigations revealed that Sridharam was involved in obtaining the ‘chitta,’ he was arrested. According to the police, Sridharan was involved in two other cases that were registered with the CB-CID wing. He was also suspended in 2007 following a departmental action..Father-son duo killedA father and son, both fishermen, were killed in an accident involving a container lorry at Kasimedu in Monday.Shivakumar (42) and his son Arun (20) were proceeding from their house in Periakuppam in Ennore to Kasimedu, when their vehicle collided with a container lorry coming from the opposite direction. Arun was killed on the spot, while Shivakumar died en route to hospital. The lorry driver is absconding. The Kasimedu traffic police seized the vehicle and registered a case.    Cash, jewels stolen from wedding hall Over 20 sovereigns of gold and Rs three lakh in cash were reportedly stolen from a wedding hall at Poonamallee on Sunday. According to the police, Arun Kumar (42) of Guduvancherry, was a sub-inspector with the police training academy at Tambaram. When Kumar arrived to attend his niece’s marriage at a wedding hall near Poonamallee bus stand, he reportedly left 20 sovereigns of gold jewellery and cash of  Rs three lakh with his brother. The Sub Inspector’s brother left the valuables and cash in a suitcase and kept it in the groom’s room at the wedding hall. When Kumar went to the room after the wedding to leave the gifts there, he found the jewellery and cash missing and the suitcase broken open. Another 1.5 sovereigns of gold and a silver lamp were also found stolen. The police have registered a caseand are investigating.
