CHENNAI: Though ‘Green Christmas’ was the theme of the day at the Velammal MHSS in Mogappair, the colour that was overpoweringly present was red. With a sea of toddlers dressed as Santa Claus, the KG department of the school has now taken a shot at entering the Guinness Book of World Records on Saturday. There were 1,522 kids, aged between 3-5, all studying in classes Pre-KG to UKG from the school, dressed identically as Santa. They gathered in the atrium. The formation drew appreciation from parents and teachers alike as they stood like a massive Christmas star, underneath the Chennai sun. As the Green Christmas campaign was aimed at Saving Mother Earth, plenty of enviro-friendly badges were seen. There was also a large 6x6 ft replica of the world with a single sapling perched atop to drive home the point of tree planting. Close to 1,000 saplings were then planted near it to begin the ‘green’ initiative. While the Limca Book of Records has accorded the school with the record for most number of Santa Clauses in one gathering, the Guinness confirmation is expected in two weeks, said a teacher.
