THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Minister for Food, Civil Supplies and Registration T M Jacob on Friday said that the Chief Minister had ordered a Vigilance inquiry into the alleged sabotaging of the e-tender process for making purchases in Supplyco. He told a news conference, convened to brief about the achievements of his department during the 100-day action programme, that the Civil Supplies Secretary had conducted a departmental inquiry and recommended a Vigilance probe. He said that whether the complaint was a bogus one or genuine, the government’s decision was to conduct a Vigilance probe. The Minister said that steps to fix fair price of land was being completed in places where resurvey had been completed and new price would be fixed soon. But the demand to reduce the fair price by 45 per cent could not be accepted. In such cases, the opinion of the local body authorities also would be sought, the Minister said. He said that during the first 100 days of the government, 5,75,230 ration cards were issued. It is for the first time that such a large number of cards was issued in such a short period. He also said that 20,56,536 card-holders and inmates of recognised orphanages were provided 25 kg of rice at Re 1 per kg a month. Referring to the office of profit controversy involving the Government Chief Whip and Opposition Leader, Jacob said that these posts had been there in the past too. Citizens can criticise court judgments. However, it will not be correct to criticise the judges personally, he said.
