VELLORE: Laptop, cellphones and some important documents were seized from the residence of Ambur Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Anbu on Tuesday during a raid conducted Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) officials, following complaints of irregularities in TNPSC appointments. The issue of irregularities in the  appointments came to light few months ago, following which raids were conducted in the residences, work place and other properties of officials and members of the TNPSC.The raid at Anbu’s residence-cum-office at the government quarters near the Ambur Bus Stand began at 7.00 am and continued till 3.30 pm. The raid party comprised 12 members, including SP Maheshwari, ADSP Subbaiah and Inspector Joy Dayal. Raids were also conducted at Anbu’s birth place in Ettiyampatti village in Arur, where his mother Sivagami resides.  Anbu’s wife Sujatha is working in a panchayat union school in Alankuppam in Ambur.According to sources, several other complaints against Anbu such as accepting bribes from sand miners and holding kangaroo courts(kattapanchayats), had also come to the DVAC’s notice.Anbu, who was initially working as a teacher, had taken up TNPSC Group I exams and joined as DSP in June 2011. He was posted in Seerkazhi in the beginning and after a few weeks, was transferred to Ambur. It is suspected that Anbu was involved in irregularities in his own appointment and some other TNPSC candidates as well.Talking to mediapersons, SP Maheshwari said, “We have strong evidence of his involvement in irregularities in the appointments. During the search, we came to know that Anbu had aided a TNPSC member and important documents in this connection were also found. Apart from this, we have also seized his laptop, computer and cellphone.”
