New Delhi: Fresh violence is being reported in Nandigram. Twenty-five people have been injured and admitted to the hospital after CPI-M supporters and Trinamool workers clashed on Sunday morning.
Trinamool supporters along with Bhumi Uchhed Pratirodh Committee (BUPC) had attacked the CPI-M party office in Nandigram.
Meanwhile, BUPC has called for a bandh in Nandigram on Monday.
Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee appealed to the central government to take action against the West Bengal government.
She said that if the Centre can take action against the Andhra government then action should be taken against the Bengal government.
PTI quoted Superintendent of Police G A Srinivas as saying that police rushed to a CPI-M office near the bus stand after learning that party activists and supporters of the BUPC were hurling bombs at each other at the spot.
The Rapid Action Force was deployed in the troubled area, which has witnessed recurring clashes since January over the acquisition of land for a proposed chemical hub.
West Bengal government later on declared that the chemical hub would not be set up in Nandigram.
“Trouble erupted today when a victory procession to celebrate the opposition winning seven of 26 seats in the Haldia civic body was going towards Nandigram police station from the BDO's office, PTI quoted BUPC convenor Sheikh Sukhian as saying.
He claimed the procession was attacked by a group of 10 CPI-M activists who hurled three bombs. He also claimed 25 people were injured in the baton-charge.
The injured were taken to a primary health centre and given first aid, he said.
