Henman won a marathon five-setter against Spanish Carlos Moya.

New Delhi: Tim Henman may not be a favourite to win Wimbledon anymore, but he endeared himself to his home supporters with a marathon five-set win over former World No. 1 Carlos Moya.

Henman and Moya resumed their match from Monday and in the end the Briton won it in just over four hours 6-3, 1-6, 5-7, 6-2, 13-11. The final set lasted eight minutes short of two hours.

Defending champion Amelie Mauresmo of France won her first round match with ease on Centre Court. Mauresmo proved to be too strong for Jamea Jackson of the United States. She won 6-1, 6-3 in a little over an hour to move into Round II.

Men's ninth seed James Blake of the US was another comfortable winner on the day, easily disposing off the challenge of Russian Igor Andreev in straight sets. Blake won 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 in just over an hour and a half.

With his strong serve and good volleying skills, Blake is rated as one of the outside chances for the tournament.
