Woman ends life over dowry

VELLORE: A 19-year-old girl, who allegedly immolated herself due to dowry harassment, succumbed to the burns on Tuesday. Ramya, who was married to Rangan of Nathikuppam village eight months ago, allegedly set herself on fire on March 23, following dowry harassment from her in-laws. Police attached to the Ambalur police station said that Ramya had died on TuesdayRamya’s father Annadurai of Nellikollai Vattam lodged a complaint stating that she had taken the extreme step as she was unable to bear the mental agony caused by her in-laws.Following the complaint, police filed a case of suspicious death. Tirupattur RDO will conduct an enquiry into the case as the girl has died within seven years of marriage, police said.
