BALASORE: Police on Friday rescued the two women kept confined to their house for five days by the villagers of Sangrampur under Nilagari police limits on suspicion of practising sorcery. The women Kati Singh (40) and her relative Mama Singh (50) were later taken to Mama’s relative’s place in Mayurbhanj district. They have been advised to stay put till the villagers are persuaded. Police said the villagers were looking for one Surendra Singh (45), husband of Kati, whom they suspected to be a ‘tantrik’.However, it took the police a day to convince the superstitious tribals to release the women. The police have intensified patrolling in the village.
