Woods on comeback trail after dropping out of top 50
Tiger Woods will play invitational events in Perth and Melbourne in November.

Sydney: Tiger Woods, who has not won a tournament since the 2009 Australian Masters and has now dropped out of the world top 50 for the first time in 15 years, will play invitational events in Perth and Melbourne in November in the run-up to the Presidents Cup at Royal Melbourne.

The former world number one has been steadily losing ranking points because of his struggles on and off the course.

Woods, who spent much of the year tending to his knee and achilles heel and has not played a tournament since missing the US PGA Championship in August, will play at Perth's Burswood Park Golf Club on November 5 and Melbourne's Capital Golf Club on November 7 before going to Sydney for the November 10-13 Australian Open.

For the 14-time Major winner, it means he is not a sure selection for the Presidents Cup and was only one of Fred Couples' two captain's picks.

Woods will return to the US PGA Tour at this week's Frys.com Open at CordeValle Golf Club in San Martin, California, his first ever appearance in the PGA Tour's Fall Series.

Woods dropped out of the top 50 when Louis Oosthuizen finished in a three-way tie for fifth in the Dunhill Links Championship at St Andrews, Scotland.

This marked an end to Woods' streak of 778 consecutive weeks in the top 50, which he gained jumping from No. 61 on October 13, 1996.

Ever since his private life unravelled in sensational fashion at the end of 2009 and he tried to repair his crumbling marriage, Woods has been a shadow of the dominant player he once was. It has been just over three years since Woods clinched the last of his 14 Major titles and he has not competed on the PGA Tour since missing the cut at the PGA Championship in August.
