HYDERABAD: In response to the World Bank team's observations that the annual income of the Self Help Group (SHG) members have increased by nearly Rs 30,000 due to Indira Kranthi Patham (IKP) project with World Bank's support, chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Saturday directed the SERP (Society for Elimination of Rural Poverty) officials to work out special projects to further improve the livelihood of SHG women.A World Bank team led by Paramesh Shah called on the chief minister at the latter's camp office on Saturday and told him that the IKP is one of the best implemented rural poverty alleviation projects in the world. The team assured to extend further support for another five years to the state.In response, Kiran Kumar Reddy said that a meagre allocation of Rs 60 crore annual budget for fisheries sector has generated about Rs 11,000 crore annual income. Besides, the Chittoor district women SHGs dairy success story has made the government to initiate "State Milk Mission" with an estimated cost of Rs 6,000 crore.The chief minister further said that the whole success of the IKP project was due to prompt repayment of loans by women SHG members. Reduction of interest rate was the secret of the success and the very first mandal KV Palle of his own constituency in Chittoor district was taken up under this project, he claimed.World Bank team members Vijaya Kalvakonda, Jim Hankock, Vinaya Kumar, ministers V Sunitha Laxma Reddy, M Maheedhar Reddy, finance secretary V Bhaskar, SERP CEO Rajasekhar and several other senior officials were present.
