Former Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa on Sunday lashed out at Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for his partisan attitude towards Tamil Nadu in Cauvery row, and said that the Centre has to treat all states equally.
He was speaking after attending the foundation stone laying ceremony for Gurupeetha, Samudaya Bhavan and students’ hostel complex organised by the Vishwa Ganigara Samudaya Trust at Arishinakunte village in Nelamangala Taluk around 25 km from here on Sunday.
Yeddyurappa charged that Prime Minister was trying to please Tamil Nadu by directing Karnataka to release 9,000 cusecs of water daily. “Singh, before taking such a decision as chairman of Cauvery River Authority (CRA), should have considered the statistics given by the Karnataka government regarding the drought situation in over 130 taluks of the state. A central team should have been sent to Karnataka to assess the situation if the Centre had any doubts about the statistics given by Karnataka in the recent meeting,” he said.
“Let the team see the water storage in all dams of Karnataka, amount of water required for drinking and irrigation, and report it back to PM. After that we will abide by any decision taken by the Centre,” he added. ENS
