TIRUMALA: A 25-year-old devotee waiting in the queue for darshan of Lord Venkateswara died on Thursday.According to temple sources, Vasudevan who hailed from Mumbai, was in Vaikuntham Queue Complex1. Between 9 and 9:30 a.m., the devotees in the queue were allowed to purchase subsidised laddu tokens.
There was a sudden surge of devotees. In the push and pull situation in a limited space of queue, Vasudevan, who was said to be an asthma patient, was unable to draw breath and collapsed. Other devotees, lifted him up and made him sit on a bench in the queue complex. The TTD staff rushed him to Aswini Hospital. But he died on the way. His body was shifted to SVR Ruia Hospital in Tirupati.

Endowments minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah, who took a serious note of the incident, directed TTD executive officer LV Subramanyam to order a probe into it.

The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) announced an ex gratia of  Rs 2 lakh to the victim's family. It has also initiated arrangements to send the body to his native place.
