Many people rarely wear their engagement rings following a bitter separation, but Emily Ratajkowski is not one of them. The supermodel and actor recently shared an Instagram post with her two newly designed ‘divorce rings’ which were crafted from her engagement ring. Back in September 2022, Ratajkowski filed for divorce from Sebastian Bear-McClard after four years of marriage. Since the separation, Ratajkowski has hinted that she found her husband cheating multiple times. The couple have a two-year-old son Sylvester. Ratajkowski’s Instagram post about her ‘divorce rings’ has over 11 lakh likes, since it was posted on March 19.

In an exclusive interview with Vogue, the ‘Gone Girl’ actor said, “The rings represent my evolution. I don’t think a woman should be stripped of her diamonds just because she’s losing a man.” Ratajkowski got the idea of repurposing her ring while she was reading Stephanie Danler’s essay “The Unravelers” in The Paris Review. “It includes the story of her grandmother’s snake ring—a ring that is made up of the different stones from her various marriages. I loved the idea of a ring unabashedly representing the many lives a woman has lived,” the supermodel said.

Ratajkowski approached jeweller Alison Chemla, the creative director of fine jewellery brand Alison Lou, to redesign her engagement ring. Interestingly, Chemla also designed Ratajkowski’s original engagement ring which was made of two diamonds, one in a pear shape and one in a princess cut.

Talking about how they arrived at the current design, Chemla said that from the get-go they wanted to split the ring into two. They finally decided to make the pear-shaped diamond into a pinky ring and change the princess-cut diamond into a regular ring. They added two trapezoid stones around the princess-cut diamond to make it look bigger.

Ratajkowski said that she wanted a pinky ring after being inspired by Rihanna’s famous pinky-toe ring by luxury brand XIV Karats, which is estimated to be worth one million dollars.

The 32-year-old told Vogue that ever since she got her divorce rings she hasn’t taken them off. She said, “It’s been a crazy couple of years, and finally I feel a sense of peace within myself and about the life and future I have and will continue to build with my son. Somehow, these rings feel like a reminder that I can make myself happy in ways I never imagined.”
