Numerous popular Bollywood films are based on novels that are still hotly debated today. The way the plots of web series and films based on plays and novels are presented on screen makes you want to applaud the authors. We’re going to tell you about one such movie today which is based on a play by William Shakespeare.
The movie Omkara, starring Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Ajay Devgn and Konkona Sen Sharma, is based on William Shakespeare’s Othello. Even though the play has been the basis for numerous films and television shows, Omkara which was produced in 2006 broke many box office records.
Omkara was directed and adapted as a script by Vishal Bhardwaj. Later, Vishal also produced Haider, which was inspired by Hamlet by William Shakespeare. His 2003 movie Maqbool was based on Shakespeare’s Macbeth. Omkara made Rs 42 crore during that time, with a budget of Rs 26 crore, according to Box Office India’s report. Its songs were huge hits and are still in high demand, much like the movie.
Omkara has an eight rating on IMDB., and it won three National Awards. The National Award for Best Supporting Actress went to Konkana Sen. The Jury Special Award was given to Vishal Bhardwaj. The Best Audiography Award was also given to the movie.
The Filmfare Award for Best Negative Actor, or Villain, went to Saif Ali Khan. Saif gained fame for playing negative roles as a result of the movie, and he went on to perform these kinds of parts in other movies, for which he is still highly regarded. Saif Ali Khan’s roles as Udaybhan Singh Rathod in Tanhaji and Lagada Tyagi in Omkara brought him greater fame than any main roles he could have had. Devara Part 1 will feature him as a villain as well.
Omkara, which is set in the political and criminal underworld of rural Uttar Pradesh, centres on Omkara (Ajay Devgn), the leader of a local gang, as he negotiates treachery, envy and power conflicts. Kareena Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan and Vivek Oberoi all gave excellent performances in the movie. Considered one of the best Shakespearean adaptations in Indian cinema history, Omkara features a compelling narrative, sombre undertones and a striking soundtrack.
