Film celebrities are a source of entertainment to their followers and the curiosity regarding actors often goes past the screen. Fans want updates on the lives of their favourite actors and actresses, including their unrecognisable childhood pictures. Childhood photos of a sound designer and a child actor have also surfaced on social media of late. As a child actor, he played small roles in films like Anjali, Sathi Lelavathi, Aasai and Unnaipol Oruvan. He is now a sound designer and won the National Film Award for Best Sound Design at the 70th National Film Awards. This celebrity is Anand Krishnamoorthi. He won the National Award for the film Ponniyin Selvan: Part 1, directed by Mani Ratnam.
Anand has shared a clip on Instagram regarding his accomplishment. According to the Ponniyin Selvan: Part 1 sound designer, this film is not just a recognition of the aesthetics of the soundscape of the film. According to him, it is also an appreciation of the sheer amount of hard work the sound team has put in. He is very proud to represent the sound team.
Currently, Anand is working on the sound design of his much-anticipated upcoming project, Thug Life, directed by Mani Ratnam. This film is currently in the post-production stage and will be released on April 2025. Headlined by Kamal Haasan, this film stars Trisha Krishnan, Nassar, Ali Fazal, Joju George and others in important roles.
Anand’s association with Mani Ratnam dates back to the film Anjali when he was a child actor. He had talked about that experience in an interview with the Film Companion. According to him, working in the Ponniyin Selvan director’s film never felt like work. He remembered dancing and having fun while skipping school. He added, “It was also the time when one nonchalantly worked on a Mani Ratnam set, and danced to Ilayaraja’s music. In retrospect, these things seem rather awesome.”
Apart from being a sound designer and an actor, Anand has also briefly worked as a writer for the television series Dharmayutham. This series starred Abbas, Anuja Iyer and others in important roles.
