There has been a disturbing increase in reports of sexual harassment within the entertainment industry over the past weeks. One significant case involves a 26-year-old actress who has formally accused a producer in Naigaon of molestation and abuse. The actress claims that the producer has been stalking her since May, subjecting her to continuous harassment, which has severely impacted both her personal and professional life.
The actress, recognised for her roles in several Punjabi music albums, detailed her interactions with the producer in her complaint. She claims their first meeting occurred on May 17 at a hotel in Naigaon, where she alleges the producer began using obscene language towards her. Following this encounter, the harassment escalated. The producer reportedly began bombarding her with phone calls, during which he would use abusive language. To protect herself, the actress blocked his number; however, the producer continued to contact her from various unknown numbers, particularly when she was actively seeking work and assignments in the industry.
In her complaint, she expressed her frustration, stating, “The producer lured me with promises of work but ultimately deprived me of opportunities.” She further emphasised the emotional toll this harassment has taken on her, noting that after sending her offensive messages earlier this week, she felt compelled to approach the police for assistance.
To substantiate her claims, the actress has shared crucial evidence, including screenshots of the messages and a detailed call history, which she has provided to the authorities. The police have registered her complaint and are now set to question the producer about these serious allegations. Additionally, they are working to secure CCTV footage from the hotel to gather more information regarding the encounters.
This accusation is one of many that have been uncovered since the publishing of the Hema Committee report, unearthing sexual harassment in the Malayala film industry.
