Birthday Special: When Rakul Preet Singh Said She Signed Her Debut Film For Pocket Money

Walking the line between South Indian cinema and Bollywood, actress Rakul Preet Singh has made a name for herself in the film world. The actress, who often garners headlines with her films and sartorial choices, has turned 34 years old today. Rakul Preet Singh always dreamt of becoming an actress and started modelling at the age of 18 years. In 15 years of her acting career, she has shared screens with stars like Ajay Devgn, Naga Chaitanya, Allu Arjun and Ravi Teja. She landed her first role at the age of 19 years. Rakul Preet Singh once revealed in an interview that she signed up for the film to earn a little extra pocket money.

Rakul Preet Singh debuted with the Kannada film Gilli, a remake of Selvargahavan’s 7G Rainbow Colony in 2009. In one of her interviews, the actress stated that she accepted the offer to earn a little extra pocket money. She was unaware of how big South Indian films were. Gilli was directed by Raghav Loki. It starred Gururaj, Yethiraj and Rakul Preet Singh in the lead roles. Rakul received critical acclaim for her performance in the film. After this, she participated in the Femina Miss India Pageant 2011.

After a few averages and a hit film in South cinema, Rakul debuted in Bollywood with the film Yaariyan in 2014. It was directed by Divya Khosla Kumar. It starred Himanshu Kohli, Nicole Faria, Rakul Preet Singh and Nicole Faria in the lead roles. After the success of this film, she never looked back and shared screens with superstars like Ravi Teja, Allu Arjun, Ram Charan and Jr NTR in Telugu films. She became the leading choice for Telugu film producers. She starred in films like Dhruva, Sarrainodu, Nannaku Prematho, Bruce Lee, Kick 2, Winner, Rarandoi Veduka Chudham, Jaya Janaki Nayaka and Spyder.

After a hiatus of four years from Bollywood, Rakul Preet Singh made her return with the film Aiyaary in 2018. It was written and directed by Neeraj Pandey. It starred Manoj Bajpai and Siddharth Malhotra in the lead roles. A year later, she starred in the hit film De De Pyaar De. It starred Ajay Devgn, Tabu and Rakul Preet Singh in the lead roles. She was further seen in films like Doctor G, Thank God, Cuttputlli, Runway 34 and Attack.

Rakul Preet Singh was last seen in the film Indian 2 and Ayalaan. She will be next seen in the third instalment of Kamal Haasan-starrer Indian and Ajay Devgn’s De De Pyaar De 2.
