Camilla Cabello made up for missing the Met Gala last year, with her extraordinary and unique look this year. The Grammy-nominated star chose a figure-hugging metallic dress by Paris-based label Ludovic de Saint Sernin. The V-neck and the thigh slit of the dress elevated Cabello’s posture. The distressed hem of the dress added an element of mystique to the whole look. The Havana star kept her make-up and accessories minimal with smokey brown eyes and glossy nude lipstick, finished with a ponytail and single-strap heels. The metallic gold of the dress made her look like a gilded statue.
The star of Cabello’s look was her clutch. Instead of carrying any custom-made purse from the biggest brands, she chose to carry a block of ice that had a single red rose entrusted in the middle. While her dress weighed 15 pounds (approximately 6.8 kilograms), thanks to the embellishment of 250,000 Swarovski crystals, it was her “purse” that carried the weight of the whole look.
The rose was not a random choice to put inside the block of ice. The flower referred to this year’s dress code, “The Garden of Time”. The melting block of ice eluded the impermanence of time. In a way, carrying this frozen clutch at the “fashion’s biggest night out” was no less than performance art.
While speaking to E! News at the Met Gala red carpet, Cabello described her clutch as “very, very heavy”. She added, “My hands are really cold. I can’t feel my hands.” This unorthodox purse melted all the way to the staircase of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, which makes for the Met Gala red carpet. Cabello said that she was not too bothered by her melting purse. She expected that at the end of the night, she would be left with nothing but a single red rose.

The Cuban beauty explained the idea behind her look to ExtraTV and said, “I feel like it is impermanence and things decaying over time and the beauty in that, so my dress sort of rips toward the ends of my dress.” She added that initially, her ice block clutch had a handle. However, just before she stepped onto the red carpet, the handle broke. When she asked her stylist what she should do, the stylist suggested that she should just carry it as a hand-held clutch instead. Needless to say even as Cabello’s purse melted through the night, it is certainly frozen in the minds of all fashion lovers.
