Actor Fardeen Khan, who made his return to films after a 14-year hiatus with a supporting role in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi, has shared that his break from acting was a “conscious decision” to prioritize family life. His last appearance was in Dulha Mil Gaya, and during this time away, he focused on building a family with his wife, Natasha Madhvani. The couple, rumored to be separated, had relocated to London as they faced “challenges” in conceiving.
In an interview with Times of India, Fardeen opened up about this period of his life. “We had challenges having children at that time, so we moved to London. There, we had an incredible doctor, and soon after, my daughter was born (through IVF) in 2013, followed by my son in 2017,” he revealed.
Originally, Fardeen had planned to take just a two-year break after his daughter’s birth to “enjoy parenthood.” However, the break extended as he found fulfillment in spending time with his children. “I wish I hadn’t taken such a long break from work. The only brownie point is that I have two beautiful children with whom I could spend so much time,” he added.
This year, Fardeen has had three film releases, including Heeramandi, Sanjay Gupta’s Visfot, and the Akshay Kumar-led comedy Khel Khel Mein. He admitted that returning to the industry after such a long hiatus was a “struggle,” especially as he was re-entering at the age of 50.
Fardeen also spoke about the doubts he faced regarding his comeback, including concerns about whether filmmakers would typecast him or whether audiences would still accept him. Despite these challenges, he embraced the journey with the mindset of “literally starting off” a new career, determined to face whatever came his way.
Born on March 8, 1974, he is the son of the iconic Bollywood actor and director Feroz Khan. Fardeen made his acting debut in 1998 with Prem Aggan, for which he won the Filmfare Best Debut Award. He went on to star in popular films such as Jungle (2000), Pyaar Tune Kya Kiya (2001), Love Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega (2001), and No Entry (2005), solidifying his position as a versatile actor.
