GOAT Box Office Day 1: Vijay's Film Earns Record-Breaking Rs 55 Crore, Becomes Biggest Tamil Opener
GOAT Box Office Day 1: Vijay starrer smashes records with a Rs. 55 crore opening. The Tamil film grosses over Rs. 30 crore in Tamil Nadu alone, with more records in sight.

The Greatest of All Time Box Office Collection Day 1: Thalapathy Vijay’s much-anticipated film The GOAT has made a monumental debut at the Tamil box office, earning an estimated Rs. 55 crore on its opening day across India, becoming the biggest Tamil opener. This impressive number marks the third Vijay film and the fifth overall from Kollywood to cross the Rs. 50 crore opening day threshold.

In Tamil Nadu, the film grossed over Rs. 30 crore, with final figures expected to land between Rs. 32-35 crore, according to early reports from Pinkvilla.com. With this, The GOAT joins Vijay’s other massive openers like Sarkar, Beast, and Leo in the elite Rs. 30 crore-plus club. There’s a chance the film could break the first-day record currently held by Beast (Rs. 35 crore), which will be confirmed as actuals roll in. Meanwhile, Kamal Haasan’s Indian 2 previously held the record for the biggest opening for a Tamil film in 2024, both at the Indian box office and worldwide box office. The Indian sequel raked in Rs 26 crores net in India.

The GOAT’s opening day numbers reaffirm Vijay’s dominance at the Tamil Nadu box office. Unlike Leo, which had the advantage of being part of the “Lokesh Cinematic Universe” (LCU), The GOAT stands on Vijay’s star power alone, as the film lacks a popular IP or a strong musical score to boost its appeal. The film’s success is driven solely by Vijay’s stardom, underscoring his title as the “Greatest of All Time.”

Beyond Tamil Nadu, the film also performed well in Karnataka, earning over Rs. 9 crore on its first day. Kerala brought in Rs. 6 crore, contributing to the film’s overall success. However, the Telugu states saw a weaker response, with the opening day figures falling short compared to Vijay’s previous releases. Analysts suggest that the film’s music may not have resonated with audiences in these regions, but the core markets of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Bengaluru have delivered strong results.

Despite its box office success, The GOAT received mixed reviews. News18 Showsha rated the film 2.5/5, calling it “a quintessential star vehicle” lacking depth and strong character development. While the younger version of Vijay is meant to capture audience excitement, critics noted that the film fell short in execution, particularly with its underwritten antagonist.

Nonetheless, The GOAT has solidified its place as one of the biggest openers in Tamil cinema history, proving Vijay’s box office pull yet again.
