Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes Alternate Ending Revealed
Freya Allan revealed that the original climax sequence between her character Mae and Owen Teague’s Noa was altered. The makers decided to take a more “subtle” approach to the ending, allowing the audience to think hard about the human-ape future ahead.

Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes has finally premiered in the theatres. The Wes Ball directorial has opened big at the box office, generating positive reviews from fans and critics. While Owen Teague lent his voice to the chimpanzee Noa, actress Freya Allan essayed the character of a human, Mae. Although Noa and Mae forge a friendly equation initially, by the end of the film they are shown to be at a crossroads. The movie’s ending served as an essential plot twist. But in a recent media interaction, Freya Allan revealed that the original ending sequence was a little different than what made it to the final cut.

The climax sequence is a confrontation between Noa and Mae. When the antagonist Proximus Ceaser (Kevin Durand) captures the two in an underground military vault, Mae chalks out a different plan. Originally she teams up with Noa to flood the place, empty the weaponry and save humans from enslavement by Ceaser’s rule. But Mae floods the vault early and escapes with a crucial hardware device, leaving Noa and the other captured apes to drown. When she returns, Mae finds Noa alive.

Mae claims that humans deserve to be at the top of the hierarchy, whereas Noa points out Mae’s betrayal and claims that humans cannot be trusted. In a shocking change of scenes, Mae can be seen hiding a gun behind her lest the conversation gets heated and Noa or the other apes try to attack her. But, the situation does not demand she pull the trigger.

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Freya Allan talked about the particular scene, disclosing an alternate ending she filmed. “Originally, you see her pull the gun on Noa, but his back is turned to her. And so you think, ‘Oh, my God, is she about to shoot him?’ Mae is crying as she’s doing it. And then she doesn’t. The minute he mentions Raka’s name, she puts the gun down,” she revealed, adding that the scene was chosen to portray Mae being scared of Noa and his intelligence.

Freya Allan continued that later on the makers wanted a more “subtle” ending allowing the audience to think hard about the human-ape future ahead. “So it becomes a very emotional goodbye, one with tragic, lingering doom,” she concluded.

Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes also stars Peter Macon, William H Macy, Lydia Peckham, Sara Wiseman and Dichen Lachman in important roles.
