Actress Sameera Reddy’s acting career started with Pankaj Udhas’s music video titled Ahista. She shot to fame with the films Musafir and Kalpurush and went on to show her acting prowess in many hit projects. However, the actress had to go through a tough phase in her personal life when she weighed 105 kilograms during her pregnancy. She talked about her struggles during this phase in The Debinna Bonnerjee Show.
The 45-year-old actress recalled that she didn’t leave her house for a year after embracing motherhood. According to her, she suffered from depression after gaining an enormous 105 kg weight. Sameera also remembered how her gynaecologist trivialised her post-partum depression. It is only in her second pregnancy that she came to know about this term and emphasised the need to make girls more aware of it. Sameera added that the bride’s family is not ready to initiate difficult conversations like this before the wedding.
Sameera married entrepreneur Akshai Varde in a traditional Maharashtrian wedding in 2014. The couple embraced parenthood with Hans Varde in 2015 and daughter Nyra in 2019. Sameera, Akshai and their children, Hans and Nyra, tested positive for COVID-19 in 2021. However, they have since recovered.
In an interview with Humans of Bombay, the Kalpurush actress said that her husband Akshai Varde took care of their baby Hans, from changing diapers to feeding him, while she struggled with her emotions.
Sameera last acted in the film Varadanayaka directed by Ayyappa P Sharma. This film starred Kichcha Sudeep, Chiranjeevi Sarja, P Ravi Shankar and others in the ensemble star cast. This film was released in 2013 and received mixed reviews. While talking about her acting career in an interview, Sameera said that when she decided to step away, “Everyone vanished, nobody was there. But it’s fine as our industry is such and I think even I moved away from them. I was scared of myself but nobody asked me why I left the film industry and what has happened to me."
