Sydney Sweeney is stepping into the ring in a way you’ve never seen before. The talented actress looks completely unrecognisable with her new brown mullet while taking on the role of boxing legend Christy Martin in an upcoming biopic. Talk about a transformation! Over the weekend, the 27-year-old star was spotted on the set of David Michod’s yet-to-be-titled film in North Carolina, and wow, does she look different! Swapping her signature blonde locks for a shoulder-length mullet, Sweeney is ready to pack a punch, quite literally.
Dressed in sporty ’90s-inspired gear, Sweeney donned a baggy tan T-shirt, oversized zip-up jacket and loose-fitting pants. A blue bandana tied around her dark wig and a pair of classic white sneakers completed the look.

Christy Martin, now 56, was a force to be reckoned with in the ’90s, emerging as one of America’s greatest female boxers. She didn’t just win matches; she captured hearts with her charisma and tenacity. But behind the scenes, Christy reportedly faced personal battles, including a tumultuous relationship with her manager and husband, Jim Martin. In a shocking turn of events, Jim brutally stabbed and shot Christy in 2010, reports Page Six.
“I think she is young, hot, talented and about to make a movie that in 20+ years, fathers will watch with their daughters to make them aware of domestic violence,” Martin shared with TMZ in May. “I want this movie to bring awareness to domestic violence, the challenge of sexuality and an overall underdog story. I am a coal miner’s daughter from a small town in southern West Virginia that made an impact in a sport that wasn’t taken seriously: women’s boxing,” she added.
According to Page Six, Christy is even eager to lend her expertise to Sweeney, particularly when it comes to nailing her famous left hook. Sweeney has a bit of history in the ring herself, having grappled and kickboxed from ages 12 to 19. “I’ve been itching to get back into the ring, train and transform my body,” she confessed to Deadline after her casting was announced.
“Christy’s story isn’t a light one; it’s physically and emotionally demanding. There’s a lot of weight to carry, but I love challenging myself,” Sweeney explained.
In addition to elevating female boxing, Sweeney also talked about how Christy “overcame gender stereotypes and fought through emotional, physical and financial abuse.”
