Being the flagbearer of sculpted physiques in Bollywood, Salman Khan has never shied away from going shirtless on screen. Many of his films have had him go bare-chested for a final confrontation with the antagonist. However, the biggest challenge for Salman Khan was probably when he had to wear a langot, a kind of nappy that wrestlers wear, for filming the wrestling scenes in Sultan.
During an interview in 2016 during the promotion of Sultan, he said, “The toughest part of doing this film was wearing the langot. I finally understood how actresses feel when they have to shoot in swimsuit shorts. Ali Abbas Zafar insisted that I wear a langot instead of shorts because it wouldn’t look authentic otherwise.”
He was already jittery about the idea and what added to his agony was that when he was to shoot the scene with a langot, there was a crowd of close to 5,000 people. Salman reportedly told Ali Abbas Zafar that he would not be able to do the scene as there were ladies in the crowd as well.
Ali Abbas then said that Sultan would be released the next Eid instead of that year, referring to postponing the film. This made Salman agree to enact the scene in his langot. He added that he wore a lungi to walk from his van to the shooting location and also that he had tears in his eyes the entire time.
Sultan narrated the story of an underdog wrestler who retired at the pinnacle of success following a personal tragedy and later aims to come back years later through an international MMA tournament. It was a big box office success and turned out to be the ninth highest-grossing Hindi film of all time.
Salman Khan will soon be appearing next in Sikandar where he has partnered with famed Tamil filmmaker AR Murgadoss
