Not all heroes wear capes, many act selflessly with the aim of helping people in distress and need. Often, they don’t get their due credit, but that does not stop them from continuing their philanthropic work. Recently, health workers reiterated this by helping children get their polio immunisation braving through harsh weather conditions in Jammu and Kashmir. A video of the same is trending on social media. Online users appreciated the health worker’s efforts.

A Pulse Polio Immunisation Drive was held to provide polio drops to children under the age of five. Health workers from across the country worked relentlessly to reach every child in the specified age group. The video shows the health worker travelling through deep snow to reach the area’s Health and Wellness Centre so that they can give polio drops.

The video opens with health workers walking through 4-5 feet of snow while carrying polio vaccine boxes. The camera then pans to show the entire snow-covered countryside, including the area’s Health and Wellness Centre. Towards the end of the video, we see the health professional inside the centre administering the drops to the children.

The video was posted by ANI on their X handle with the caption, “Health workers brave heavy snowfall in Gurez to administer door-to-door polio to children. Heavy snowfall in Gurez has restricted the authorities from establishing booths due to roads being closed in several places.”

The online users were quite happy to see their efforts and commended them, stating, “Great to see their dedication.”

Another similar video published by All India Radio News on their X handle showed a health worker going through 4-5 feet of snow in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar area to give polio drops.

Polio is caused by a virus that mostly affects nerves in the spinal cord and brainstem. The virus can spread through contaminated water or food, or by coming into contact with an infected person. In some situations, it can result in paralysis. The Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommend that every child receive at least four doses of the polio vaccination.
