An AIX Connect (previously Air Asia India) Lucknow-Kolkata flight made emergency landing at Lucknow airport after suffering a bird-hit on Sunday.
The aircraft had 147 passengers onboard and it returned to the bay after the incident. The airplane was then grounded for a detailed inspection, AIX Connect said in a statement.
“Flight i5-319, scheduled to operate from Lucknow to Kolkata, encountered a bird-strike during the take-off roll. As a result, the aircraft returned to bay and was grounded for detailed inspection,” an AIX Connect spokesperson said.
A senior official at the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said the A320 aircraft VT-RED was involved in “reject take-off due to a bird strike”.
Due to the incident, the plane encountered engine vibrations. Post-flight inspections revealed that there was damage to the four blades.
The airline said that the impacted passengers were attended to, and it is making efforts to mitigate the impact on the integrity of other scheduled operations.
