Amritsar-Kullu Direct Flights to Commence from October 1
Amritsar plans to launch air connections to Kullu and Shimla in Himachal Pradesh from October 1, boosting tourism and accessibility.

Amritsar is gearing up to establish vital air connections with two prominent destinations in Himachal Pradesh, i.e., Kullu and Shimla, starting on October 1.

These new flight services are scheduled to operate three times a week, specifically on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays for Kullu and three times a week starting on November 1 for Shimla, as reported by the Times of India.

The introduction of these air routes signifies an important milestone for both Amritsar and Himachal Pradesh, offering a multitude of benefits. Firstly, it will serve the interests of tourists and business travellers originating from Punjab, enhancing their accessibility to these Himachal Pradesh destinations. Additionally, it will greatly facilitate the convenience of overseas residents of Himachal Pradesh, providing them with seamless access to their hometowns.

For those eager to embark on the Kullu-Amritsar-Kullu route, ticket bookings are already open through Alliance Air, ensuring travellers can efficiently plan their journeys. The Kullu-Amritsar flight is scheduled to depart from Kullu at 8:25 AM, arriving at Amritsar by 09:30 AM. The return flight from Amritsar will take off at 10:00 AM, touching down in Kullu at 11:05 AM.

A notable aspect of this new service is the subsidy initiative, with half of the seats on this route being subsidized. The airfares are attractively priced at Rs. 2637 for the Kullu to Amritsar and Rs. 3284 for the Amritsar to Kullu.

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu emphasised the significance of direct air connectivity to Amritsar, a pivotal hub linking domestic and international destinations. He noted that this development would significantly contribute to boosting tourism in the hill state, making destinations like Kullu-Manali, Lahaul, and Spiti more accessible to travelers. “The government is committed to enhancing air connectivity and setting up heliports to boost tourism and economic development,” he said.

In addition to the current trio of airports in Jubbarhatti (Shimla), Bhuntar (Kullu), and Gaggal (Kangra), there are ongoing efforts to expand Kangra airport, aimed at improving Himachal Pradesh’s air connectivity and accommodating larger aircraft, as Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, the Chief Minister, mentioned.

Moreover, the state has established new heliports in Shimla, Baddi, Rampur, and Kangnidhar (Mandi), with plans for another heliport in Manali. These initiatives aim to enhance travel within Himachal, benefiting both domestic and international tourists. The Chief Minister also emphasised the importance of Amritsar International Airport as a major hub connecting various destinations, highlighting the positive impact of the new flights on tourists.
