'Different Feeling When You Get The Outside Edge': Mohammed Shami Picks His Favourite Scalp From Fifer vs Australia
Mohammed Shami also talked about his plans to trouble the batters on the flat surface in Mohali.

Premier India pacer Mohammed Shami ran riot with the ball in the first ODI against Australia in Mohali as he claimed a fifer to dismantle their batting line-up on a flat batting track.

Shami displayed his class with the ball by producing a top show of seam and swing bowling. The 33-year-old paceman got a place in the XI as Mohammed Siraj was rested for the series opener.

And he grabbed the opportunity with both hands, claiming crucial wickets of Mitchell Marsh, Steve Smith, Marcus Stoinis, Matthew Short and Sean Abbott.

It was not an easy task to bowl in Mohali due to the hot weather with bowlers visibly showing the signs of discomfort with Shami even leaving the field after his first spell.

Despite the challenging conditions, he swung the ball in and away, making lift difficult for the batters.

He was named Player of the Match for his brilliant bowling. After receiving the award he opened on bowling long spells in heat.

“It depends on the captain and the game situation, but despite the heat you feel like bowling 4-5 overs with the new ball,” Shami said in the post-match presentation.

Shami said that he liked Marsh’s wicket the most as it was a peach of a delivery which swung away from the batter and took the edge of his bat to slip where Shubman Gill took an easy catch.

“I enjoyed the wicket of Marsh, that’s a different feeling when you get the outside edge, when you control your swing nicely,” he added.

He talked about his plans to trouble the batters on the flat surface in Mohali.

“It was important to hit the right lengths on this wicket, either at full pace or go slow, but bowling the right lengths were key,” he said

Shami further talked about the Indian bowling group and their success in recent times as  Siraj claimed a six-wicket haul in the Asia Cup final, while Bumrah has been effective since his comeback after the long injury lay-off.

Shami said all the bowlers celebrate each other’s success and enjoy bowling together in tandem.

“We’ve played together for a long time, so we know what needs to be done. Always enjoy when we bowl well in tandem like this,” he concluded.
