The equestrian events at the 2023 Asian Games are set to begin on September 26. India has sent a strong contingent of equestrians who will compete across three events including evening, show jumping and dressage. All of the equestrian events at the Hangzhou Games will be hosted at the Tonglu Equestrian Centre and will continue till October 6. Equestrian was introduced as an Olympic sport back in 1900. It has been a part of the Asian Games since 1982. Japanese equestrians have dominated the continental showpiece over the years, securing 43 medals which include 18 gold. The Republic of Korea follows Japan on the list with 15 gold medals to its name.

India have so far won a total of 12 Asian Games medals (three gold, three silver and six bronze) in equestrian. All three gold medals that Indian equestrians have claimed came at the Delhi Games in 1982. Raghubir Singh finished atop the podium in two different events. He prevailed in the individual eventing, while also winning the team eventing alongside Ghulam Mohammed Khan, Bishal Singh and Milkha Singh. Rupinder Singh Brar secured the other gold as he triumphed in individual tent pegging, a category which featured in the Asian Games only in 1982.

India won two silver medals at the 2018 Jakarta Games. Olympian Fouaad Mirza finished second in individual eventing. He was also part of the Indian quartet which became runners-up in the team eventing category.
