Lucknow Super Giants will make their third appearance in the Indian Premier League, coming on the back of two good seasons where they lost twice in the Eliminator stage of the tournament.
KL Rahul missed the majority of last year’s IPL due to a hamstring injury. He will look to lead the side to another successful season after two successive play-off qualifications. With Devdutt Padikkal’s inclusion in the side and reports suggesting Rahul dropping down the order, LSG will look to make smart moves at the auction with the limited purse they’ve got.

Five players LSG could target at IPL 2024 auction
Travis Head
The Australian left hander has been in rich form in international cricket lately, of which was on total display in the final of ODI Cricket World Cup 2023. He is an aggressive top-order batter, who if gets going can turn the game on its head.
Head is an all-round cricketer who is excellent in the field and can be useful with his part-time off-spin bowling as well. He is due a big amount in this year’s auction and LSG will be lucky to grab hold of him as other teams with bigger salary cap will target him too.
Pat Cummins
Teams will look to empty their bank for the Australian skipper as he is an experienced campaigner and no stranger to the IPL. The World Cup triumph would have added to his allure and he will definitely fetch a big price at the auction. Cummins is no mug with the bat either as he holds the record for the joint-second fastest fifty in the IPL.
LSG do not have a trustworthy overseas bowler with Mark Wood not available for the entire season and Naveen ul Haq not being up to the mark. They will look to buy Cummins at a fair price if they don’t face a stiff competition from other teams.
Daryl Mitchell
The Kiwi batter has performed superbly at the international stage in 2023. He was in good form in the ODI Cricket World Cup as well. Mitchell provides stability in the middle order and has the game to switch gears whenever needed. LSG could make a move and buy Mitchell at a good price as he can partner skipper KL Rahul in the middle order. He bowls medium pace and gives the captain an option to bowl a couple of overs if anyone among the specialists is having a bad day.
Dilshan Madushanka
The left-arm pacer showed his ability to swing the new ball at the World Cup as he was the standout performer for Sri Lanka picking 21 wickets in nine games. With a limited purse remaining, LSG may look to steal Madushanka at a decent price which will enable them to spend the rest of the money on other big players.
Madushanka will prove a good choice for them as he can team up with Mohsin Khan.
Kartik Tyagi
The young right-arm fast bowler has not really proved his worth in the IPL playing for Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad in the past. But he is quick and has a solid bouncer that could startle batters. LSG can buy him and nurture him for the future. He will join the likes of Yash Thakur, Yudhvir Singh and complete the squad with good local talents.
