As Sanjay Kumar Mishra’s term as the Director of the Enforcement Directorate ends, the government on Friday appointed IRS officer Rahul Navin as the agency’s in-charge Director.
“The President is pleased to order the cessation of tenure of Shri Sanjay Kumar Mishra, IRS(IT:1984) as Director of Enforcement in the Enforcement Directorate on 15.09.2023 and placing Shri Rahul Navin, IRS(IT: 1993), Special Director, Enforcement Directorate as in-charge Director, Enforcement Directorate till appointment of a regular Director or until further orders, whichever is earlier,” read an official order.
In July, the Supreme Court said the extension of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) chief is invalid and mentioned that Sanjay Mishra can head the ED till July 31. The apex court later extended Mishra’s tenure till September 15.
Mishra got an extension of one year last in November 2022. His tenure as ED Director was to expire in November this year.
Mishra, an Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer, was in his fifth year as the ED director, the maximum on a post for any bureaucrat, as even the maximum term that any cabinet secretary has had so far is four years. He got a third extension last year.
