Reliance Industries and Reliance Foundation on Monday unveiled Vantara, an initiative for animal welfare in Gujarat, with focus on the rescue, treatment, and rehabilitation of injured and abused wildlife across India and abroad.
Spanning 3,000 acres within the Green Belt of Reliance’s Jamnagar Refinery Complex in Gujarat, the initiative marks the first-of-its-kind effort in India.
Within the premises, a rescue and rehabilitation centre spanning more than 650 acres has been established. Vantara is the brainchild of Anant Ambani, director on the boards of RIL and Reliance Foundation. In recent years, the programme has successfully rescued over 200 elephants and thousands of other animals, reptiles, and birds from unsafe situations. It has undertaken initiatives in key species including rhino, leopard, and crocodile rehabilitation.
In a heart-warming tale of resilience and compassion, a majestic white tiger, previously a circus-performing animal, rescued by Vantara, has defied the odds to reclaim his health and happiness. Upon arrival at the Vantara facility, the tiger was in a dire state — emaciated, with bones protruding, revealing the harshness of his past.
As part of the routine diagnostic procedures like X-ray, ultrasound, and CT scan after the animal was received by Vantara, it was discovered that the tiger was suffering from renal impairment. Undeterred by the challenges, the dedicated team at Vantara embarked on a meticulous treatment protocol, which included a tailor-made special diet, coupled with unwavering love and care from the caretakers.
Through perseverance and commitment, the tiger responded positively to the treatment, gradually recovering from the renal failure. Today, he stands as a testament to the power of compassion and rehabilitation. He is not only fit but also thriving, living a contented life alongside members of his streak.
This remarkable journey underscores the importance of rescue efforts and the vital role played by Vantara in providing a second chance to animals. The dedication of caretakers has transformed a tale of hardship into one of hope and renewal.
Jamnagar, which houses Vantara, will also host the three-day pre-wedding bash for Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant from March 1 to 3. Day 1 is called An Evening in Everland, with the dress code listed as “elegant cocktail”. Day 2 will host A Walk on the Wildside with “jungle fever” the suggested dress code. The final day will also comprise two events. The first one, Tusker Trails, suggests “casual chic” dressing, as guests are expected to further explore the green ambience of Jamnagar. The final party, Hastakshar, calls for an elegant evening with heritage Indianwear.
According to reports, among those expected at the event are Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Morgan Stanley CEO Ted Pick, Microsoft founder Bill Gates, Disney CEO Bob Iger, BlackRock CEO Larry Fink, Adnoc CEO Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, and EL Rothschild chair Lynn Forester de Rothschild. Many more VIPs will be coming, especially tycoons from India and people from the world of entertainment.
Famous international artists, including pop star Rihanna and magician David Blaine, are set to perform at the pre-wedding festivities. Top Indian musicians who will perform include Arijit Singh, Ajay-Atul and Diljit Dosanjh.
