Virat Kohli Becomes 2nd Highest Run-getter in ODI World Cup History
Virat Kohli has been having a memorable ODI World Cup breaking several records.

Virat Kohli continues to break records in the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup.

The India batting superstar has become the second-highest run-getter in ODI World Cup history.

Kohli needed three runs to overtake Ricky Ponting (1743) in the list and he overtook the Australia legend with a four in the final of the 2023 world cup.

The 35-year-old achieved the milestone during the final of the world cup being played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Tendulkar holds the record for the most runs in competition’s history. He scored 2278 runs in 44 innings at 56.95 including six centuries and 15 fifties.

India captain Rohit Sharma also climbed up a rung in the list, moving ahead of Kumar Sangakkara and is now fourth in the list. Rohit made 47 against Australia in the final match before departing.

In the semi-final clash against New Zealand at the Wankhede Stadium, Kohli became overtook Sachin Tendulkar in the list of top century makers in ODI history.

After drawing level with the batting legend in Kolkata at 49, he surpassed his ‘hero’ to become the first ever player to complete half-century of hundreds in ODIs.

Kohli also surpassed another Tendulkar record during his memorable knock against New Zealand. He became the highest run-getter in a single edition of the tournament, breaking Tendulkar’s record of 673 in 2003.

The former India captain is the first in history to breach the 700-run mark as well.

India were put in to bat first by Australia at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

And in what was an eventful start, India lost three wickets inside the first 11 overs including that both openers Shubman Gill, Rohit and in-form Shreyas Iyer too.

This is the third time India have made it to the final of an ODI World Cup and the first time since 2011 when they became the champions. On the other hand, Australia are the most successful team in world cup history, having won the title a record five times so far.
