After 'Udta Punjab' row, BJP MLA from Sangeet Som demanded to ban Jimmy Shergil's next film – 'Shorgul' – which is based on Muzaffarnagar riots.
Som is under scanner for his role in the 2013 Muzaffarnagar riots and for the last few weeks he is adamant that the movie should be banned due to factual error.
'Shorgul' is set to release this month and Shergill plays a character reportedly based on Som. "It is sad that I am being shown in such a distasteful light. It is not just about me," he had said earlier.
"It is a conspiracy against me by the Congress and Samajwadi Party. They are trying to defame me," he added.
Senior Congress leader Kapil Sibal has written lyrics for a song with a title 'Tere bina' and BJP claimed that it was a Congress leader’s ploy to defame the party ahead of the 2017 Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh.
However, the makers of the movie claimed that it is based on a love story in the backdrop of a series of communal clashes in the state.
BJP also alleged that the characters resembling to Samajwadi Party leaders Azam Khan and Akhilesh Yadav were shown as a popular mass leader with no controversies.
