Tamil Nadu and Kerala are locked in a bitter row over the 116-year old dam with Kerala wanting to replace it with a new structure.
Chennai: Amid the row over Mullaperiyar dam between Tamil Nadu and Kerala, former President APJ Abdul Kalam on Sunday suggested that talks between the two Chief Ministers could help solve the situation.
Both the Chief Ministers should meet and discuss the issue to sort it out, Kalam told reporters at the Annual Book Fair. "If they meet and discuss, everything should be possible," he said.
The two states are locked in a bitter row over the 116-year old dam with Kerala wanting to replace it with a new structure citing safety concerns and Tamil Nadu opposing it, saying the new dam would deprive it of its due share of water.
