New Delhi: The Income Tax Department on Wednesday conducted raids on properties related to Karnataka Energy Minister DK Shivakumar. While the Congress is calling it a political vendetta and a ploy to reach out to the Gujarat MLAs holed up in the Eagleton Resort, one of the places that was raided, the BJP and the department itself is calling it coincidence.
Let’s take a look at who Karnataka’s Energy Minister DK Shivakumar is:
– An MLA from the Kanakpura constituency.
– One of the richest candidates in the 2013 Karnataka polls
– Had a declared wealth of Rs 251 crore.
– Is the most prominent Karnataka Congress leader from the Vokkaliga community.
– Emerged as the flagbearer of the Vokkaligas after the exit of SM Krishna.
– Is considered similar to what the Reddy brothers of Bellary were to the BJP
– Was inducted late into the cabinet by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah because of allegations of illegal mining against the leader.
– Six-time MLA and is quite popular in the Vokkaliga belt of Mysuru region.
– In June 2013, Shivakumar’s henchmen allegedly dug up a six-foot deep trench around JD (S) leader GH Prakash’s house for shifting his loyalty.
– Seen as a front runner for the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee chief post.
– Reportedly does not share a great rapport with CM Siddaramaiah.
– Has charges related to forgery, furnishing false information, cheating, cheating by personification, criminal conspiracy and public servant unlawfully buying or bidding for property.
