Chennai: In a strong reaction to the allegations leveled at party chief K Karunanidhi, DMK on Monday threatened to sue Press Council of India Chairman Markandey Katju and demaded an unconditional apology for his comments. In a statement, DMK's organising secretary RS Barathi raised counter questions on Katju's assets and asked him to declare his property details.
The DMK condemned Justice Katju for selectively and personally targeting party patriarch.
Earlier last month, the former Supreme Court judge had alleged that the DMK had pressured the UPA regime over the appointment of an Additional Judge of Madras High Court.
"It is a blatant lie," Karunanidhi had told reporters then.
Justice Katju had alleged that three ex-Chief Justices of India, Justice RC Lahoti and his successors Justices YK Sabharwal and KG Balakrishnan, made "improper compromises" and "succumbed" to political pressure in the extension of additional judge at the instance of UPA-I government owing to pressure from an ally, a "Tamil Nadu party", and his confirmation as permanent judge.
