Panaji: The two Communist parties will contest seven seats in the Goa assembly the elections for which are scheduled to be held on March 3. The Community Party of India (CPI) would contest five seats while its ally CPI(M) two seats, CPI s state general secretary Christopher Fonseca told reporters on Thursday.
CPI has decided to field its candidate in Santa Cruz, Taleigao, Panjim, Priol and Sankhalim constituencies while CPI(M) would put up its candidates in Sanvordem and Mayem constituencies. Fonseca said that the party has been associated with Goa even before its liberation. "There are various issues that could be solved only if you have proper representation in the legislative assembly," he said.
The CPI has listed mega housing projects, scarcity of power and water supply to industrial units, anti-labour policies of industries, improper sports facilities as some of the issues on which to fight elections. The party has also kept its option open to support the like-minded candidates in other constituencies, which are not contested either by itself or CPI(M), Fonseca said.
