Kalam Death Anniversary: Foundation Stone for Memorial to be Laid Today
An exhibition named "Mission of Life" depicting the life of Kalam and his achievements towards nation building will also be inaugurated.

Rameswaram: On the first death anniversary of Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, the foundation stone for a memorial in the honour of former president will be laid in Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu.

Union Ministers Manohar Parrikar and Venkaiah Naidu are present for the event.

Kalam's life-size statue was be unveiled on Wednesday.

"We are gathered here to pay respect to the great man, the way forward to carry his toughts and teaching forward, he conceived Agni, Prithvi and was rightly called the Missile Man," Naidu said.

Kalam, a popular head of state between 2002 and 2007, had died on July 27, 2015.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had in 2015 announced that a memorial would be constructed to commemorate the life and works of Kalam, also known as India's Missile Man, at Rameswaram in Ramanathapuram district of Tamil Nadu where he is buried.
