Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan has pitched the panchayat polls as the mid term elections that will change political equations in the state.

The polling for as many as 27 zilla parishads and 305 panchayat samitis across the state takes place on Tuesday.

Much is at stake for several Maharashtra bigwigs such as Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Nitin Gadkari, Gopinath Munde, Narayan Rane and RR Patil in the polls at Nagpur, Beed, Sindhudurg and Sangl.

The counting for the polls will take place between February 8 and February 17.
