Modi criticises PM for remarks on malnutrition
The Gujarat Chief Minister said that India enjoys a demographic advantage, given that the country has the largest number of youth population.

Ahmedabad: Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday took a dig at Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for alleged inaction on the issue of eradicating malnutrition from the country.

"The Prime Minister had admitted in his speech about malnutrition problem in the country and expressed concern over the issue. But what next?," Modi said at the NuTech technological carnival held at Nirma University.

"Nothing much has happened on this count," he added. The Prime Minister had in a recent speech admitted that malnutrition was a 'national shame'.

"Expressing his pain will not resolve the problem," the Chief Minister had earlier stated. Modi said the state's forensic science university is helping the farm sector improve yield by providing technological inputs.

"Gujarat s Forensic Science University is helping the farmers in testing the purity and quality of seeds, fertilisers and insecticides with the application of science and technology," he said.

"There is need of application of technology to bring about qualitative improvement in social, economic, and educational fields," he said.

Modi said India enjoys a demographic advantage, given that the country has the largest number of youth population.

"It is not enough to make them degree-holders but they should be helped to learn the right skills and engaged to solve various problems of the society," he said.

The carnival is first of its kind initiative of 13 students' groups aimed at the use of advanced technology and management for development of villages.
