New Delhi: Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh, without any disclaimer, made it known that the entire political turmoil in the party was a "programmed drama".

Singh, as is his wont, did not shy away from pulling his punches and claimed that "Mulayam Singh and Akhilesh are one and will remain one".

Speaking exclusively to CNN-News18, Singh said: "Mulayam loves being defeated at the hands of his son. Cycle, son, and SP are his weaknesses. Even at polling day, the entire family went together. So why all the drama?"

The Samajwadi Party went through a bitter power struggle between Mulayam and his son Akhilesh, with the latter taking the fight to the Election Commission and, ultimately, winning the battle and the party symbol.

The state was witness to the 'drama' played out among the family members with charges and counter charges flowing thick and fast, tears and emotional outbursts, snatching of mikes and other such things.

Amar Singh, who is also a close aide of Mulayam, was blamed for the fiasco.

SP leader Udayveer Singh told CNN-News18 that the entire tussle in the Yadav family is the conspiracy hatched by party leader Amar Singh along with the BJP in a bid to destroy the Samajwadi party. Also Read: The Invisible Hands of Amar Singh Rock SP Boat Once Again

"It was a programmed drama in which all of us were given a role. I subsequently realised that we are being used. That umbilical cord with SP government was cut after I was expelled. I came to realise it was a ploy to distract from the anti-incumbency, law and order situation," said Amar.

Amar Singh claimed that "Mulayam Singh is the master script writer" and he planned it all along.

Interestingly, as the warring factions took the fight to the Election Commission laying claims for the symbol Amar Singh was conspicuous by his absence. Mulayam on the day of hearing at the commission was accompanied instead by his brother Shivpal Yadav and his old time aide and former Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ambika Chawdhary. Also Read: As Mulayam and Akhilesh Fight Over Cycle, Amar Singh Jets to London

"He fought with his son as a father. But that was the limit. But Akhilesh hit back like a political rival. In his fight there was no limit," said Amar Singh.
