Ignoring speculation that he would quit over his feud with his nephew Akhilesh, Shivpal said, "It is the discretion of the CM to give (or take) portfolios and remove officers and keep his advisors."
Differences between Akhilesh and Shivpal have risen on several occasions, including on the choice of official to be appointed as the state's chief secretary after Alok Ranjan's term ended, and over stalling of Qaumi Ekta Dal's merger with SP.
Speaking on the stalemate over the merger of Qaumi Ekta Dal with the SP, Shivpal said, "that matter is settled. We have spoken to Netaji. The two Ansari brothers have been taken in the party. That matter is settled."
